Transport yourself back to Colombia’s ancient, pre-colonial past on a four-day journey to explore the country’s traditional indigenous wisdom. Adventurous visitors who don’t mind giving up their home comforts in exchange for some barefoot luxury will love this vey special voyage into the past.

The Tayronas were the first settlers of Santa Marta, the first city founded in Colombia. With the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors and the looting of their territory for gold, the Tayronas were forced to retreat to the highlands of the Sierra Nevada to survive and maintain their ancestral legacy.

Today their descendants - the Kogui, Arhuacos, Wiwas, Kankuamos and Arsarios - remain in the foothills of the highest coastal mountain in the world on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. You can learn about these ancient cultures, today more alive than ever, by visiting the Ancient City, an Archaeological find inherited from the Tayronas.

Visiting the Ancient City, you will have the opportunity to get to know one of the main settlements discovered so far in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and explore the lush tropical mountains of this unique coastal terrain.

You will be able to appreciate Tayrona architecture such as its terraces, which served as housing sites, its specialized work for religious ceremonies, all intercommunicated by roads and stairs of different dimensions.

When walking on the stones you will hear sounds of nature, it becomes one of the closest experiences to the passing of the Tayrona through the mountain.

Today the archeological remains present in the Ancient City have become silent witnesses of the high degree of development that descendants of the Tayrona culture have had, who in pre-Hispanic times decided to choose as habitats the ecosystems offered by the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountain range in the world.
